The Residence Galle Fort

Live inside history.

GALLE FORT

Galle Fort is a historic fortified city on Sri Lanka’s southern coast and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and later expanded by the Dutch, it is one of the best-preserved colonial forts in Asia.

Enclosed by stone ramparts overlooking the Indian Ocean, Galle Fort is known for its cobbled streets, colonial-era homes, churches, mosques, boutiques, cafés, and art galleries. Today, it is a living heritage destination where centuries of history blend seamlessly with refined hospitality, culture, and coastal charm

ABOUT GALLE FORT

Galle Fort is not just a destination, it is a living, breathing town shaped by centuries of history, culture, and daily life. Built by the Portuguese and later fortified by the Dutch, the Fort today is a rare blend of colonial architecture, Sri Lankan traditions, and a close-knit local community.

Staying inside Galle Fort means waking up to quiet streets, walking past ancient ramparts, hearing the call of vendors in the morning, and watching the light change across coral stone walls.

The Residence – Galle Fort allows you to experience the Fort not as a visitor, but as a temporary local at your own pace.
